Calling All Veterinary Students!

Happy 7 Week old Golden Retriever puppy on white background

Let’s be real—you need hands-on experience, and we need people to continue our legacy of exceptional veterinary care. We can’t deliver such high-level care without supporting, training, and welcoming employees that are equally passionate about veterinary medicine. That’s why we offer externships to further educate, train, and provide growth opportunities for aspiring team members. Want to be a part of something exceptional? Read on.

Veterinary Externship Opportunities

Externships are a big responsibility, we know. And many of them can also leave a big hole in your wallet. Not ours. We value the time and work you do for us, so we’ll pay you in kind. Not only do you get a $150 weekly stipend, but we offer housing at three of our hospitals, too.

Want to know what you’ll be up to?

You will perform duties as an exam room assistant for 2-4 weeks and shadow a veterinarian at any of our locations for additional hours (and the stipend). And guess what? Transportation is included.

“Great! But what exactly can I expect?”

We hear your question, and we have the answers.

What to Expect

You can expect real-world experience working at a multi-doctor, multi-location small animal practice that operates at a fast pace. Applicants will experience a supportive, mentoring environment among experienced clinicians. Additionally, you’ll be given a wide variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Assisting in and observing soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries
  • Performing spay and neuter procedures for local rescue groups
  • Assisting the veterinarian in the exam room
  • Conducting nose-to-tail physical exams on client-owned pets
  • Interpreting radiographs and ultrasounds
  • Analyzing in-house clinical and pathological lab test results
  • Assisting with dental prophylactic procedures
  • And a whole lot more.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to go it all alone. Each student is assigned to a mentor for the full duration of their externship. You will be expected to work with your mentor 5 days a week for a total of 20 hours every week. The remaining 20 hours per week will be spent in any hospital you prefer based on your veterinary interests (surgery, holistic medicine, exotics, dentistry, oncology, management, etc.).

We aim to exceed expectations for not only our clients but our employees, too. You’ll have opportunities to apply the extraordinary skills, education, and passion for pets that you already have, and strengthen them by solving real world problems.

We continually challenge our teams to be influential, to develop ideas that will shape our future and enrich the culture within each Companion Animal Hospital. But we know we’re not the only ones asking for things, you’re asking for things, too: a decent salary, benefits, good hours. We get it, and we deliver. From us, you can expect:

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Insurance
  • Competitive pay
  • Substantial resources
  • Opportunities
  • Access to state-of-the-art equipment
